Void
This piece is conceived from self-criticism towards my surrender
to rampant consumerism.
As a victim of the cult of things, I’m looking to communicate an endless void.
To do so, I’ve recreated a bag from Whole Foods – recently acquired
by Amazon – to represent these dual entities of mass consumption.
Without a bottom, the bag alludes to the insatiable
need to consume reflected in western societies.
The effectiveness of this piece requires the audience’s participation,
making it an interactive experience. In order to validate that void,
the individual will toss a receipt into the bag, which will end on the floor.
These receipts will slowly accumulate,
symbolizing the wastefulness as a result of this rampant consumerism.
