Desunion
This series of unique pieces emerge with the purpose
of representing the never-ending struggle for unity.
Each piece begins as a solid figure, treated in a way that,
once it’s laid in the oven, it ends fracturing itself.
This symbolizes the clash of ideas that, in the absence
of mutual respect, end up breaking off and following their own paths.
Each fragment is pulled out of the oven and pieced together like a puzzle,
leaving only a small gap between them.
These pieces are left undercooked to always keep the option of setting
them back in the oven to mend the fragments back into a whole.
That’s the hope within this piece.
Even if there are opposing ideas that separate us, there’s always hope
to understand and respect each other, and in time, come together and unite.
This piece can represent tolerance in the polarized world we live in.
