Each piece begins as a solid figure, treated in a way that, once it’s laid in the oven, it ends fracturing itself. This symbolizes the clash of ideas that, in the absence of mutual respect, end up breaking off and following their own paths. Each fragment&nbsp;is pulled out of the oven and pieced together like a puzzle, leaving only a small gap between them. These pieces are left undercooked to always keep the option of setting them back in the oven to mend the fragments back into a whole. As a victim of the cult of things, I’m looking to communicate an endless void.To do so, I’ve recreated a bag from Whole Foods – recently acquired by Amazon – to represent these dual entities of mass consumption. Without a bottom, the bag alludes to the insatiable need to consume reflected in western societies. The effectiveness of this piece requires the audience’s participation, making it an interactive experience. In order to validate that void, the individual will toss a receipt&nbsp;into the bag, which will end on the floor. 05&nbsp;06&nbsp; BODIES IN MOVEMENT Bodies in movementThe essence of life is expressed through movement. In every small gesture or even the blood flowing through our veins, we witness life itself. These series of sculptures were inspired by movement in a time when a back injury forced me to remain static. A severe hernia had made it difficult to move freely, putting in perspective how essential movement is in life. As I recovered in bed, I would imagine myself running, dancing, jumping, and doing anything but resting. The movements I longed for were my inspiration. That’s why I wanted to give life to these sculptures through the movement of dance created by curves, lines, textures, and shapes.&nbsp; I begin each piece with a rough sketch, but once I start sculpting the clay, I allow for gravity to have some creative freedom. By carefully feeling where gravity is playing a role, it gives me a sense that the sculpture is creating itself and I’m just guiding the movements as an observer. My role is simply to play around by creating supports to counter gravity’s pull while giving some structure to the movements. This becomes a spontaneous and playful way for me to achieve movement organically, without the need to overthink each piece. Each sculpture ends up as a unique piece of dark clay shaped by movement, and at times, with added white elements that dramatize their dance. Nuestra mente y espíritu no son la excepción. Por eso, ninguna promesa es para siempre y ninguna decisión es final. Del inevitable cambio, nace nuestro miedo a la incertidumbre. Esta obra está inspirada en la vida, sus ciclos y su impermanencia. En una sociedad que se aferra a mantenerse estática, esta representa mi rechazo y mi necesidad de una vida maleable. Busco mostrar que la vida es imperfecta y aceptar que el cambio es inevitable. La incertidumbre es parte de la vida, y lo mejor que podemos hacer es explorar sus posibles caminos. Nuestra existencia es un viaje, no un destino. Los diferentes círculos de esta pieza están construídos con el propósito de que sean ensamblados de diferente manera, por cualquiera y para siempre. Estos representan ciclos, los cuales tienen el potencial de repetirse una y otra vez. Su permanencia sólo será posible hasta que deje de existir el artista. As long as we exist, nothing is absolute and everything is in a state of constant change. Our mind and spirit are no exception. Therefore, no promise lasts forever and no decision is final. From inevitable change, our fear of uncertainty is born. This work is inspired by life, its cycles and its impermanence. In a society that clingsto remain static, this represents my rejection and my need for a malleable life. I seek to showthat life is imperfect and accept that changeit is unavoidable. Uncertainty is part of life, and the best we can do is explore its possible paths. Our existence is a journey, not a destination.The different circles in this piece are built with the purpose of being assembled in a different way, by anyone and forever. These represent cycles, which have the potential to repeat themselves over and over again. Permanence will only be possible until the artist cease to&nbsp;exist. By being free from the guidelines of its author, the work becomes a unique experience, co-creation of the viewer and the artist. If the circles do not assemble in the desired way, the viewer can returnto try until you achieve the desired harmony.
